Coeur et Sol, French for heart and soil, is an urban farming concept with the mission to grow produce commercially in Essex County, New Jersey. We have a strong desire to help beautify the community and promote small business development. In addition, we hope to connect our desire to educate those around us about how food could and should be grown in small scale settings using sustainable and organic practices.
We will apply market gardening principles to grow fresh produce on borrowed land in the city. We plan to begin on one lot and then expand to achieve an accumulative 1/3 of an acre of vacant lots, undernourished township properties, or wasted lawn space.
